We appreciate the opportunity to provide input to the St. Andrews State Park for your management plan. Private boaters have been enjoying Shell Island with our families for generations. We have cherished and appreciated the natural resources of the island, and we have taken good care of the island and each other all these years. The middle of the island forms a natural anchorage at a residential subdivision with a mixture of private lots, state park lots, and county roads. This area is where our historically-established recreational requirement is clearly delineated, and we have enjoyed this historical use without the management of State Park personnel enforcing State Park rules on top of the county and state laws we abide by currently. In the update to your 10-year Unit Management Plan for St. Andrews State Park and Shell Island, we request that the State Park: * Acknowledge the historically-established recreational boating requirement at the island. * Acknowledge the importance of the island to the local boating industry. * Acknowledge the importance of Shell Island to the local $ 1 Billion tourism industry. * Acknowledge that there is a residential subdivision in the middle of the island where the private boaters anchor, and that the State Park doesn't have jurisdiction on the county roads or private lots there. * Not implement any additional regulation out into the waters surrounding Shell Island.
